Zigen Tanabe, born in 1970 in Toyama, Japan, attended art school at the age of 18, where he studied painting and illustration. After his studies, Tanabe became a freelance illustrator, producing artwork for advertising campaigns and magazines in Tokyo. It wasn't until 1999 that Tanabe extensively studied the traditional Japanese brush method. The following year, in 2000, he exhibited his brushwork in the United States. Currently, Tanabe resides and works in New York.
